Our world is shaped by man-made products and environments. Speculation on the topic of "Broken Nature" (thesis subject) brings human industries to the foreground, leaving only the remains of Nature paying the price. How can these two seemingly opposed concepts find common ground?
Note: "Speculation" refers to that of "Speculative Everything" by Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby, which had a profound influence on the outcome of this thesis project.
FITO is a modular production station that enables plant roots to be shaped in molds. Made entirely out of sustainable materials including a living clay biocomposite, latex, natural waxes, oils, and stainless steel, it’s the base for the creation of a symbiotic ecosystem on a large scale: an industrial forest (see above).
Molds are represented here with a Voronoi cell, but the potential is an infinite range of products from insulated packaging to home furniture, functional containers to personal accessories – all durable and carbon-negative.
