This project, initiated by the Generalitat of Catalunya aims to offer a gift to the directors of 5 schools dedicated to artistic education in Barcelona. This Trophee recognizes their fundamental role as well as their involvement in the vanguard of Barcelona's creative world. In 2023, IED Barcelona was in charge of design, concept and production of the gift.
The project was put into the hands of two Alumni who graduated in 2020, Stella Ferrazzo and Teo Gaudet. The project kicked off asking questions based on context and their own experience: What is a “Gift”? What is teaching art? How do learnings affect a student, future professional? By reaching out to the infinite questions like“What is art?”, “What is there that is not art?”, we put our answers together in two brainstorms, from which some one main focus resulted: deconstruction.
Focusing on deconstruction, we took as a protagonist a recognisable and codified object, returning to its essence to involve it in a metaphor. For that purpose we chose the frame, a classic and closely related object with the art scene. The frame has two major functions: Giving visibility to the work, prominence and adding value to the work, completing it. These functions can be compared to those of artistic teachings. To deconstruct this frame, we took as a protagonist a section of the frame, and transformed it into a malleable, fluid sculpture, that rests on a counter geometric shape, creating a visual metaphor.
